Imaginative Owls

New Workshop: Imaginative Owls with Joyce Curvin

Join guest artist Joyce Curvin for a fun and imaginative mixed-media workshop where you'll transform wire, foam, fabric, paper, masking tape, and clay into a charming owl sculpture standing approximately 7 inches tall. You'll build your owl's structure, wrap the body in colorful fabric and decorative string, then personalize your creation with paper wings, expressive eyes, accent feathers, and your own creative finishing touches. Patterns are provided for guidance, but there's plenty of room to make your owl uniquely yours.

When: September 12, 2026, 12–4pm
Where: Depot Arts District, 955 E Memorial Blvd, Lakeland
Cost: $70 — all materials included

Sign up now at www.lakelandartsassociation.com or DM us to reserve your seat!

About the Instructor

Mixed media artist Joyce Curvin was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida, in a family that valued reusing, repurposing, and recycling — creativity was always encouraged. She studied art and business at Stetson University in DeLand, graduating with a BBA in marketing, and went on to a successful career in visual merchandising and store design for area malls and shops, creating art independently and as part of her display installations along the way. Having worked across clay, metal, paper, and wood, her practice today centers on papier-mâché and mixed media.

In 2022, Joyce was one of nine artists invited to participate in Florida CraftArt's "Clearly Collaborative" project alongside Master Glass artist Duncan McClellan, incorporating large glass vessels into her mixed media pieces. Several of her works are held in the collection of the Marietta Museum of Art & Whimsy in Sarasota, and her art is currently available at Florida CraftArt Gallery (St. Petersburg), Dunedin Fine Art Center (Dunedin), Safety Harbor Art and Music Center (Safety Harbor), BIG ARTS Gallery (Sanibel), and The Laughing Dog Gallery (Vero Beach).
